No Compromise on Infringements

Many brand name manufacturers experience counterfeiting of their products or trade marks, and Danfoss is no exception. In the past, we have seen a variety of fake ‘Danfoss’ thermostats infiltrating the market, carrying either a forged Danfoss logo or something very close and intended to deceive.

When it comes to infringements of our trademarks and patents, Danfoss is relentless in the pursuit of offenders. In recent years, we have initiated an increasing number of legal actions against counterfeiters all over the world. We spend around 20 to 30 million DKK each year to enforce our rights and to prosecute counterfeiters.
The difference between a Danfoss thermostat and a fake

It is easy to find out whether a thermostat is a genuine Danfoss product or a fake. Danfoss uses a cold-welded seal on the capillary tube.

During this process, the copper tube is deformed under very high pressure to create a solid copper seal. This is then encased in a layer of tin to create the best seal available anywhere on the world market.

Most other producers, including Chinese counterfeiters, use a simpler sealing process in which the capillary tube is pressed into place and then sealed by simple tin soldering. This kind of seal is easily attacked by the melting water from the evaporator. After a period of time in service, the electrolytic process can result in a defective seal, leading to a loss of refrigerant and resulting in a non-functioning thermostat.
