In northern Mexico, fresh natural water resources are both polluted and scarce. In the central and far south-eastern regions, water is inaccessible and poor quality. In fact, access to clean water has become such a problem in Mexico that the government considers it a national security issue. Providing a reliable supply of clean water has been high on the government’s agenda since early 2008. New water purification projects are underway throughout the country – and the local Danfoss office is busy keeping up with demand for components.
In Mexico, reverse osmosis systems are commonly used to purify water. In reverse osmosis, pressure forces a solvent from an area of high solute concentration through a membrane to an area of low solute concentration. Pressure transmitters, pressure switches and solenoid valves help maintain the right pressure in the system, and Danfoss components are doing the job.
A Monterrey-based company is using the Danfoss MBS 3000 pressure transmitters and the KPI switches in their reverse osmosis system. Featuring excellent vibration stability, robust construction and a pressure range from 0 to 600 bar, the MBS 3000 is ideal for water treatment. Compact and versatile, it performs well even in the harsh conditions in Mexico’s tropical areas and deserts. The KPI 35 and KPI 36 pressure switches are used to control and monitor liquid and gaseous media, and can cope with pressure ranges from 0.2 to 28 bar, and a high contact load.
