Fire fighting pump by Danfoss
Unsually fast and effective fire suppression, with min. water damage, through
Danfoss High-Pressure water hydraulic pumps and components.
During the last ten years, water mist systems for fire suppression have been subject to considerable development.
The most obvious application areas for these systems today are engine rooms, cabins and kitchens on board ships and within the off-shore sector, computer rooms and cables and mobile fire fighting units/vehicles.
The mist created by the systems consists of small drops of water measuring 5-200 µm. These are sprayed into the fire area where the mist is transformed into vapour – a process that consumes great amounts of energy and thereby reduces the heat produced by the fire. The heat reduction occurs more than 100 times faster than normal sprinklers/nozzles, even though these use 10-20 times as much water. Expansion by a factor of 1700 also takes place when the water mist is transformed into vapour. This means that fresh supplies of oxygen are prevented from feeding the fire. A fire is made up of three principal constituents: flammable material(s), heat and oxygen. The use of water mist eliminates two of the three factors that must be present, ie heat and oxygen. The result is that the fire is extinguished much faster and with at least ten times less water in relation to standard sprinklers/jets. Water damage as a consequence of fire fighting can therefore be reduced correspondingly.
To supply the small drops of water and at the same time ensure adequate throw needs a minimum pressure of 80 bar. Therefore Danfoss fire fighting pumps are particularly suitable in that they operate with pressures up to 160 bar, have a minimum efficiency of 92% and are the most compact pumps on the market.
