Valves - Automatic touchless car wash systems

In this car wash there is one high pressure pump unit and 2 high pressure valves per system. By going to Danfoss VDHT valves the car wash endusers got a longer valve life and as a bonus the plunger high pressure pumps got a longer life as back-pressure into the pump was eliminated.
Description
In this touchless car wash system, there are two high pressure spray functions. One valve is controlling the flow to the undercarriage spray function and another valve is controlling the flow to the arch spray function. The 2 solenoid valves are running on the same pump system and only one valve is open at a time.

Customer
US manufacturer.

Year of implementation
Running customer since end of 2002.

Requirement specification
Fresh water or reclaimed water is sprayed out at 80 bar (1100 PSI) and 150 l/min (40 GPM). The valves must be able to handle the filtered reclaimed water. The coils had to be 24V AC and rated NEMA 4X

System
After the pump is a T-split where there are 2 pcs of VDHT 1” valves (both NC).

Technical data
180L0105, 180Z0182, 180Z0183.

Advantages of the system
In comparison to the old brass valves, our VDHT stainless steel valve are more suitable for reclaim water:

  • In reclaim water the cleaning fluid is also reclaimed and that can give corrosion problems for brass valves. This problem is solved by going to the stainless steel VDHT valves.
  • Furthermore, even though the reclaim water is filtered there are still some dirt particles in the water. The cone shaped poppet design is more resistant to dirt in compassion to the old valve as the old valve had a flat a flat closing surface on their poppet.
The VDHT valve opens up within 0,5 seconds. The old brass valve used on the system took up to 3 seconds to open up. This was hard on the plunger pump used for generating the flow. The pump and valve get the signal to open at the same time. The plunger pump started to pump water after 0,5 seconds but since the brass valve took 3 seconds to open, the result was back pressure into the plunger pump for about 2 seconds. The relief valve in the system could not bypass all the water away from the pump during this period. Therefore, the customer expects to get a longer pump life due to the faster opening time on our solenoid VDHT valves.
