Danfoss building expansion receives "Outstanding Design" award

The Northern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recently announced that the Danfoss building expansion in Loves Park, Illinois, has been awarded an Outstanding Design award.

The 12,000 m2, LEED* Silver certified addition to the Danfoss Power Electronics NAM headquarters was completed in 2009. The new addition accommodates a testing lab space addition, office expansion shell and a new training and conference facility.

The following features manifest Danfoss’ desire to build a facility that is sensitive to its environment, is LEED certified, and expresses its corporate commitment:

  • Natural prairie landscaping
  • Maximized open space
  • White roofing intended to reduce the heat island effect
  • Use of precast fabrications by local precast manufacturers
  • High recycled content in interior finishes
  • Use of low volatility organic compound (VOC) finishes
  • Use of glazing to provide daylight and views for employees  
 

*LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is an internationally recognized green building certification system
