Danfoss VLT frequency drives harmonics

Harmonic distortion can cost you a fortune

All electrical equipment, including cables, is designed based upon a common assumption – that it will be used on a pure sinusoidal supply. If the supply is corrupted with harmonic distortion, then the equipment is operating outside of its design parameters, potentially to its detriment.

The adverse effects of harmonic distortion can be severe and include:

• Limitations on supply and network utilisation
• Increased energy losses
• Increased kVAr costs
• Increased transformer, motor and cable heating
• Reduced equipment life-times
• Costly thermal trips
• Network resonance problems
• Sensitive control system malfunctions

The solution

Danfoss offers a number of very effective solutions to reduce harmonics, improve reliability and reduce operating costs.
