Automatic Motor Adaptation, AMA
The AMA algorithm of the VLT AQUA Drive determines the electrical parameters for the connected motor and ensures efficient motor operation.

Automatic Energy Optimization
The standard feature AEO provides optimized motor magnetization at all speeds and loads. This increases energy efficiency by 5-15% for partial loads.

Energy monitoring
The VLT AQUA Drive provides a complete range of energy consumption information, which helps identify low-efficiency components in the system.

High Overload
Up to 160% (depending on power size and settings) of torque for water and pump applications with high requirements.

PM motor support
Support for permanent magnet motors for better system efficiency.

Dedicated water features

The interactive SmartStart setup wizard of the VLT AQUA Drive is optimized for water and pump applications. It guides the user through the entire commissioning process and significantly saves time.

Quick Menu
The user-friendly Quick Menu, and its submenus saves time during drive configuration. The submenu "Water and Pumps" provides direct access to application specific features.

Auto tuning of the PI controllers
With auto tuning of the PI controllers, the drive monitors how the system reacts on corrections made by the drive - and learns from it, so that precise and stable operation is achieved quickly. 

Flow Confirmation
The Flow Confirmation feature is designed for applications where there is a need for the motor/pump to wait for an external event before running. The Flow Confirmation monitor expects to get a digital input from a sensor on a gate valve, flow switch, or a similar external device.

Pre/Post Lube
The Pre/Post Lube function controls an external lubrication device prior, while and/or after running the motor which is connected to the VLT AQUA Drive in order to prevent damage and wear.

Free programmable infos, warnings and alerts
User-defined texts in the VLT AQUA Drive support with the best possible system integration and adaptation to the application. The feature allows the free configuration of the texts (e.g. „Valve 5 open!“ as well as the definition of the triggering event and the performed action.

Features and benefits


Pipe Fill Mode
Enables controlled (closed loop) filling of pipes. Prevents water hammering and bursting water pipes, or blowing off sprinkler heads.

End of Pump Curve detects breaks and leakage
The feature detects breaks and leakage. End of curve triggers an alarm and shuts off the pump, or performs another user defined action.

Dry Pump Protection lowers maintenance costs
The VLT AQUA Drive constantly evaluates the condition of the pump based on internal frequency/power measurements.


Can be used as a proactive or reactive feature of the AQUA Drive for wastewater applications to prevent clogging of pumps. Deragging helps to avoid downtime and reduces maintenance cost.


Cascade controller solutions
The built-in standard cascade controller controls up to three pumps with a fixed lead pump. The optional Extended and Advanced Cascade Controller makes it possible to extend the number of pumps and ensure smooth staging/de-staging, also in mixed pump and variable speed pump applications.

Motor Alternation
This built-in logic controls alternation between two pumps in duty/stand-by applications. Motion of the stand-by pump prevents the pump from sticking. An internal timer assures equal usage of the pumps.

Flow compensation
The flow compensation feature reduces the pressure set point according to the flow, which saves energy.

Initial/Final Ramp
The initial ramp provides fast acceleration of pumps to minimum speed, from where the normal ramp takes over. This prevents damage on thrust and bearings.

Check Valve Ramp

The Check Valve Ramp of the VLT AQUA Drive prevents water hammering as check valves close smoothly when the pump stops.


Quick Menu

The user-friendly Quick Menu, and its submenus of the VLT AQUA Drive, saves time during drive configuration. The submenu "Water and Pumps" provides direct access to application specific features.

The VLT AQUA Drive can optionally be delivered with the safe torque off (safe stop) functionality suitable for category 3, performance level d according to EN 13849-1 and SIL 2 according to IEC 62061/IEC 61508. This feature prevents the drive from starting unintended.
