Drives history

VLT ®5 was the first mass produced frequency converter in the world.

The electronic parts were embedded in oil for insolation and cooling. The name of the drive was derived from ”velocity control”. For a short period the name vas ”Velotrol”, which since has been abbreviated further to VLT® – now the brand name for Danfoss Drives electronic motor controls.

2007
Panel optimised drives – IP20 – are introduced. Together with the introduction of the new VLT® Microdrive and high power drives up to 1.2 MW, the new modular generation is complete.

2007
VLT® AQUA Drive – dedicated to the water- and waste water business – is introduced to replace VLT® 8000

2006
VLT® HVAC Drive – dedicated to the HVAC business – is introduced to replace VLT® 6000 Same year IP66 versions of the new drive generation was introduced, designed for mounting outdoor or in washdown production areas. 

2004
The VLT® AutomationDrive series is launched as the first through-put modular developed and manufactured concept to cover all applications.

2001
Danfoss Drives reached the target for recycling and sorting of waste products set for 2003. Now 65% of all waste products are being reused and only 25% incinerated.

1999
Danfoss Bauer GmbH join the Danfoss Group. The USA plants are environmentally certified.

1996
The plant in Graasten has been currently enlarged and now covers 22500 square meters. The plant is environmentally certified.

1995
Danfoss Drives take over the Graham Company in Milwaukee, USA. Graham is a renown provider of HVAC equipment in the USA.
 
1982
Danfoss Drives acquire Hampton Products in Rockford, USA. Today 350 persons are employed in the USA.
 
1977
The production is moved to a plant dedicated for electronics.
 
1968
In 1968 the World's first mass-produced variable speed control for AC motors was developed and sold from the Danfoss factory in Nordborg.
