Human and Labour Rights

Danfoss respects human rights; both at our subsidiary companies and in our spheres of interest. Human rights include a long range of fundamental rights such as the right to food, housing, health, work and fair working conditions etc. They also include the four labour rights, covered by UN’s Global Compact; the right to avoid forced labour, child labour and discrimination and the right to free trade union elections.

Human and labour rights are formulated for use in individual countries, but because companies operate globally and human rights are not always complied with, we believe that companies must consider how they can contribute to the compliance of human rights.
Danfoss maintains the employees’ right to be members of a union and their right to collective bargaining. In countries where national law does not give employees the right to freely choose a trade union or where an established trade union system is not possible, Danfoss will make sure that employees can meet with management in other ways to discuss work-related conditions.

Danfoss does not tolerate forced labour. Every employee should have a contract of employment or similar agreements which specify employment terms and the conditions of termination so it is clear that the employee is voluntarily employed.

Danfoss actively fights child labour by only hiring juveniles if they are between the ages of 15 and 18; if they are above the local compulsory school age; and if they are above the local minimum age for employment.

Good working conditions, a good working environment and a high safety level are the prerequisites of running a sound and efficient business. The working environment and safety are integral parts of all of Danfoss’ activities – this applies whether the company is visiting customers, designing and manufacturing products or running and maintaining equipment and buildings.

Danfoss aims for every employee to work in a healthy and safe working environment and the Group commits many resources to making machines and equipment as safe as possible. Around one third of Danfoss’ plants worldwide are certified according to the working environment standard OHSAS 18001, which ensures systematised efforts to obtain a healthy and safe working environment.

Corporate Citizenship

Danfoss’ overall goal within Corporate Citizenship is "keeping our own house in order".
This applies to employees, so that they have an attractive workplace and a healthy working environment. It applies to the environment, where Danfoss products contribute to energy savings, and where the environmental impact of their production is constantly being reduced.
And it applies, in a broad sense, to social and ethical responsibility.
Efforts are continually being intensified, because when employee satisfaction is high, consumption of resources is as low as possible, and the company’s ethics and reputation are good, the result is a positive effect on the accounting bottom line.
