Use of health tests on employees

Danfoss aims to respect the privacy of employees – because this is a fundamental human right and to avoid the risk of discrimination. For example, the company encourages the subsidiaries to be cautious in carrying out health tests, unless they have to carry out tests in accordance with local laws.

Health tests are not allowed for discrimination purposes, which is closely monitored and validated at corporate level. Often the health tests are defined in accordance with statutory regulations
Drug tests
In 2009 27 Danfoss companies ask employees to submit to urine tests to prevent the employees from being under the influence of drugs. This is an important measure for obtaining a good and safe working environment. USA and Mexico, among others, make use of such tests.

x-ray
17 Danfoss companies, perform X-rays on the employees working in areas with risk of tuberculosis of the lungs. Danfoss’ chief physician assesses the health risk of X-ray to be less than the risk of contracting tuberculosis of the lungs. The result of the examination does not have any impact on employment.

Hepatitis and HIV
A Danish company states that HIV/AIDS and hepatitis testing is performed on employees travelling or working in Russia. This is part of the process to apply for a one-year visa to the country. Yet no reports of employees set to go to Russia who were tested positive, but should this happen, the circumstances would be considered along the same lines as when employees get seriously ill and cannot perform the intended work.  Seven Danfoss companies from Thailand, Taiwan, Estonia, Germany and China test employees for hepatitis and it is often an offer to the employees and the management are not informed about the outcome of tests. Three Danfoss companies combine the hepatitis test with a vaccination offer.

Corporate Citizenship

Danfoss’ overall goal within Corporate Citizenship is "keeping our own house in order".
This applies to employees, so that they have an attractive workplace and a healthy working environment. It applies to the environment, where Danfoss products contribute to energy savings, and where the environmental impact of their production is constantly being reduced.
And it applies, in a broad sense, to social and ethical responsibility.
Efforts are continually being intensified, because when employee satisfaction is high, consumption of resources is as low as possible, and the company’s ethics and reputation are good, the result is a positive effect on the accounting bottom line.
